But I sure as HELL wasn't that way a year ago, when even just the thought of working out felt like a chore.

I lacked major control over my mind before this practice.Wasn't even aware of my thought patterns and let every negative one take me over.When your mind is fogged up like that you can't tell your productive thoughts from the thoughts that don't serve you,or are just plain not true.
